AI generation counts and limits
There is a daily limit on how many AI suggestions you can create. This page explains how generations are counted, when a generation is given back, the differences between the limit and pause messages and what to do about each, and how long you can view a suggestion.
Daily limit
By default, each store can create up to 50 AI suggestions per day. The count resets every day at midnight Japan Standard Time (JST).
The limit is a default value and may change. Check the screen for the current value.
You can check how many generations you have left on these screens.
| Screen | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Home | Today's AI generations shows the number used and the limit (for example, 8 / 50), with 42 remaining. Resets every day at 0:00 Japan time. below it |
| Settings | Under AI generation, Daily generation limit (for example, 50 (per store)) and Used today |
| Product diagnosis | Under AI optimization, Generations left today (shown as remaining / limit) |
Actions that use a generation
Each of these actions uses one generation:
- Clicking Optimize with AI on a product's diagnosis screen to create a new suggestion
- Clicking Regenerate on the suggestion screen to create the suggestion again
At the bottom of the suggestion screen, you see a message such as Regenerating uses one of today's generations (42 left). Check how many you have left before you regenerate.
These actions do not use a generation:
- Clicking Optimize with AI on a product that already has a suggestion created within the last 24 hours. Whether that suggestion is in progress, finished, or failed, no new suggestion is created and you are taken to its suggestion screen. To create a new one, click Regenerate on the suggestion screen (this uses one generation)
- Reopening a suggestion created within the last 24 hours to review it
Once you reach the limit, the Optimize with AI button on the product diagnosis screen is disabled, so you cannot go from the diagnosis screen to the suggestion screen. If a suggestion screen is already open, you can still review and apply the suggestion that was already created after you reach the limit.
Failed generations are given back
If creating a suggestion fails, that attempt is not counted. One generation is given back, so you can try again. The generation is also given back if creation was accepted but stopped partway through.
If creation hasn't finished after 3 minutes on this screen, the message changes to This is taking a while. Please reopen this screen later. This message alone doesn't mean creation failed. Creation may still be in progress, so reopen the screen after a while.
Three kinds of limit and pause messages
There are three messages you may see when you can't create AI suggestions. They look similar, but the cause and how long you need to wait are different.
| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Today's limit has been reached You've reached today's AI generation limit (50) | Your store has used up its daily generations | Wait for the reset at midnight JST. The Optimize with AI button on the product diagnosis screen stays disabled until then |
| The AI generation limit for all stores has been reached for today. Please try again tomorrow. | The combined total for all stores using the app has reached its daily limit (3,000 by default; this may change). Regardless of how many generations your own store has left, no store can create new suggestions | Try again later, or the next day |
| AI generation is currently turned off. Please try again later. | The app's operators have temporarily paused AI generation | Wait until it is turned back on. If it stays off for a long time, see Contacting support and contact us |
In every case, if a suggestion screen is already open, you can still review and apply the suggestion that was already created.
A similar message is The AI service usage limit has been reached. Please try again shortly. This is one kind of failed creation. The generation is given back, so try again after a while.
Suggestions are available for 24 hours
You can review and apply a suggestion for 24 hours after it is created. Within those 24 hours, you can close the screen and open the same suggestion again later.
After 24 hours, you can no longer review or apply the suggestion. Depending on the situation, you see the following.
| Situation | What you see |
|---|---|
| You open the suggestion screen | No suggestion to show |
| You open the address of an earlier suggestion screen directly | AI is creating a suggestion stays on screen, then changes to This is taking a while. Please reopen this screen later. after 3 minutes. Nothing is actually being created |
| You try to apply the suggestion | The suggestion was not found, or it has expired. |
In any of these cases, click Optimize with AI again on the product diagnosis screen to create a new suggestion. Creating it again uses one generation.
The screen doesn't show how much time is left. We recommend reviewing and applying a suggestion on the same day you create it.
Reinstalling does not reset the count
If you uninstall and reinstall the app, the generations you have already used that day are not reset to 0. Note that reinstalling does reset your language and welcome email settings to their defaults.
Today's AI generations versus Applied to Shopify
The home screen shows two similar numbers.
| Display | What it counts | Period |
|---|---|---|
| Today's AI generations | The number of times AI suggestions were requested | That day only (resets at midnight JST) |
| Applied to Shopify under Optimization status | The number of products that have had a suggestion applied at least once | Running total (undoing an applied suggestion does not lower it) |
Troubleshooting
- I clicked Optimize with AI, but I was taken to the suggestion screen instead of getting a new suggestion: The product already has a suggestion created within the last 24 hours. To create a new one, click Regenerate on the suggestion screen
- The Optimize with AI button is disabled: You have reached today's limit. Check how many generations you have left and wait for the reset at midnight JST
- More generations were used than I expected: Regenerate also uses one generation
